Hi there,
This issue's project: patch nail holes like a pro
Time: 30 minutes plus drying. Cost: under $15. Level: first project.
- Press a little lightweight spackle into each hole with a putty knife.
- Scrape the knife flat across the wall so almost nothing is left on the surface. Less is more.
- Let it dry, sand lightly with a fine sanding sponge and wipe off the dust.
- Spot-prime, then touch up with your wall paint, feathering the edges.
Full guide with bigger holes: Patch nail holes and small drywall holes.
Skill tip: the clutch is your friend
That numbered ring on your drill stops the screw when it meets resistance. Start low for small screws and turn it up one step at a time until the screw sits flush. No more stripped heads.
Reader question
"How much paint do I need for a 12 by 12 bedroom?" With 8-foot ceilings, one door, two windows and two coats, it's usually about two gallons for the walls. Try your own numbers in the paint calculator.
Happy building,
