Cut in clean lines without tape
Paint crisp edges along ceilings and trim with just a brush.
Cutting in means painting the edges a roller can't reach. With a decent angled brush and a little practice, it's faster than taping.
Technique
- Dip only the first third of the bristles and tap off the excess
- Brush paint onto the wall about half an inch from the edge to unload the brush
- Turn the brush so the long bristles point toward the edge
- With steady pressure, glide along, slowly easing the paint line up to the edge
- Work in arm-length sections and keep the bristle tips doing the work
Tips
- Good light matters: aim a work light along the wall
- A small edging pad helps along ceilings if your hand isn't steady yet
- Keep a damp rag handy to wipe slips right away
